SHIVA

He is the Vedic Lord of creation and a symbol of inner balance He is often shown with four arms: in his left arm is a trident with drum,. The trident is akin to the vajra symbol of lightening. In his lowered left hand he holds a water pot. His right hand is raised in the "fear not" welcoming mudra, and in the other he carries an axe. (Sorry, the axe and the trident are removable and someone switched them in the photos!) His braminical topknot has a crescent moon, symbolizing the feminine force as Supreme manifestation, and the head of Ganga. Ganga is the goddess of the waters of the Ganges: she spews amrita, which is living water. His third eye is open. He has a cobra wrapped around his neck, and wears a tiger skin and mala.

Ours is small, dancing, and sterling, approximately 1-inch tall.

SHIVA AS NATARAJ

Shiva or Siva literally translates as "the kind one." He is part of the trimurti, or Vedic Trinity, consisting also of Brahma and Vishnu. As dancing Shiva, he is NATARAJA, As "lord of the dance" he embodies five activities: creation, maintenance, destruction, embodiment, and liberation. In the most famous pose, the circular fiery pose, one foot sits on ignorance, Mujalaka, while the other is raised, symbolizing the supraconscious state.
