OM, OR AUM
The seed syllable OM comes to the Tibetans from the Vedic/Hindu tradition. It is the primordial sound of creation, and all sounds are said to emanate from it. In the Tibetan tradition it is, among other things, a concrete manifestation of the visible truth or absolute within.
Gaus are small prayer boxes made to be worn on the body, a little like Prayer Flags. One places one's mantra or prayers inside and the vibrational movement of the body is said to put the prayer into motion!
